So today would have been the first day of San Diego Startup Week, so I am officially missing seeing you all, but have no fear, there are great plans for this fall coming together. Listen to this recent podcast for more background and info.
We’re also eagerly awaiting the announcement of this year’s Cool Companies by Connect with San Diego Venture Group, coming out May 28. Keep an eye out. 👀
For Fresh Brewed Tech, this week we have Part 5 of the HNC story, the godfather of San...
Hey friends,
While it’s a couple days later, we can never say enough thanks to our mothers, especially during this pandemic, for looking out for us, including the ones on the front lines keeping so many safe. Thank you!
Meanwhile, this week on the Tacos & Tech Podcast, Alexa-Rae Navarro of Startup San Diego and Amy Chang, entrepreneur and angel investor, join me to chat about what’s been going on lately in San Diego tech, including the postponement of Startup Week. We also talk...
Hey friends, while March felt like a year, April felt like a week. I hope you are all doing OK. I attempted to go for a run with a mask on this weekend and it did not work out well. I did join a pretty fun virtual beer festival this past weekend where 1,500 San Diegans were shipped 10 local beers and watched recorded tasting notes from brewers and music performances. What are you doing that’s new lately?
With the switch to digital everything, it’s been fun to experiment with new ways to...
Hey all you cool cats and kittens. How are you doing?
It really feels like San Diego and California are working hard at quarantining. We know we’re sacrificing short-term gratification to have a better long-term outcome from COVID-19. Thanks for being diligent. We really are going to get through this together.
In terms of our local ecosystem, we just ended Q1, and we took a deep dive into our funding (which is up year-over-year for now) and other attributes in San Diego. We are also...
I hope you are all staying safe and healthy during the quarantine. With this new “normal” of our lifestyles and work setting in, it’s incredible to see our community come together and our resiliency to help our health care workers continue to save lives. This week, our senior writer Andrea Siedsma had the chance to connect with a UC San Diego researcher on his lab’s work to find a cure for COVID-19. We also have started aggregating content on local companies that are helping with the...
As busy entrepreneurs, how much time do we all really have every day? As a founder of a startup, you’re pulled in every direction. Despite this, I want to have the conversation on why you should help your startup community and the founder who’s a step or two behind you. I recently was asked to contribute to CEO World Magazine and wrote about why and how CEOs should get involved in their startup community. Check out the piece and let me know if it resonates.
In SD, there are a lot of...
It’s mid-February and we’re already talking about San Diego Startup Week May 26-30! In fact, I already booked my hotel to stay the week downtown. For anyone else planning to stay locally, I booked at the Horton Grand Hotel. Have you bought your ticket and checked out all the speaker sessions that are open for voting? Tell the organizing team what you want to hear by voting now! I have at least three sessions I am honored to be a part of: How to clone yourself and market your brand better,...
Welcome to February 2020. January was sobering as Kobe Bryant’s death affected me more than I was expecting. I was born and raised in LA and Kobe was always there, grinding out to be the best at what he does. I would say it took me five days to really shake past the shock and channel it towards focusing on my main goals of 2020: get consistent sleep (utter failure in 2019), grow the business by changing the game, and show up as the most prepared to everything I do. Mamba mentality. RIP...
In December 2018, the stock market got wild and everyone was talking about a recession in 2019. Or at least I did in my 2018 year wrap up. I was obviously wrong, so read my 2019 wrap up and 2020 look ahead and let’s take bets on the local tech ecosystem for one year from now! We’ve had some big new biotech rounds and some interesting acquisitions just in the last week, so we’re off to a good start in 2020.
Something exciting that’s happening right now is that San Diego’s newest...
Happy new decade! Ten years ago, I was living in LA and working on the Space Shuttle, and now my team and I are helping to build startup ecosystems. Along those lines, you may not know everything our Fresh Brewed Tech team is up to. Behind the scenes of this media company is a team that is writing lots of original content and distributing it via our newsletters, including our OC tech news. Stay tuned for new ecosystems to be added in the coming year. Our greater parent company is called Rising...
