Bloombites: Showcasing Incredible San Diego Start Up Growth | 12/08/2020

by Neal Bloom
Even though the year continues to be challenging overall, it’s been a pretty busy and successful last few weeks in our tech community. Due to the growth of some of our leading industries during the pandemic, there’s been some blockbusting fundraising for a few startups. Autonomous trucking unicorn TuSimple raised another $350M, bringing its total to $648M in funding to date. Small business digital tool maker GoSite raised $40M of funding in a Series B, 100 days after its Series A. GoSite is exploding and proudly there’s a lot of local investors backing this company. Logistics tech startup Flock Freight has also been booming with the growth of domestic shipping and raised $113.5M from SoftBank and others. Expect more of this kind of growth as more of our local SaaS companies ride the wave of digitization unleashed since Covid-19. And not to be overlooked for a second, brand new biotech manufacturing company Resilience emerged from stealth mode with $750M in funding with some massively strategic partners. There are a lot more recent fundings listed lower in this newsletter. This is a great time to help these companies find talent, including utilizing Advancing San Diego. Companies can apply to have paid talent work for them.
Another milestone achieved is the startup The Atlas getting acquired by Government Executive Media Group. As an early investor, I’m really proud of what founders Elle, Ellory, Angie, and the team have built and that it will continue to have an impact connecting our communities. Congrats team! In other acquisitions news, a long time local gaming standout, Daybreak Games, was acquired for $300M as well.
Cheers,
